KPSA 20th Annual Directors Conference

KENYA PRIVATE SCHOOLS ASOCIATION ANNUAL CONFERENCE, 2017.

THEME: The Challenges of Change for better Education”.

Date: 10th – 12th April 2017

We are pleased to invite Directors/Managers of private schools to the Kenya Private Schools Association conference cum AGM scheduled for 10th to 12th April 2017 in Mombasa at the SAI ROCK BEACH HOTEL in Mombasa. This Conference is an annual event for the owners/Managers of private schools from across the country whose objective is to enhance their participation in expanding access and improving quality of Education in the country.

The theme of the Conference will be “The Challenges of Change for better Education”, where we will examine the challenges of private schools in basic Education provision vis a vis the ongoing changes in the Education sector and define practical strategies for their continued growth and improvement .

Monday 10th April, 2017

8.00 – 8.45am – Registration of participants

8.45 – 9.00am - Preliminaries and introductions.

9.00 – 10.00am – Motivational speaker on ‘Change for greatness’. This topic will focus on how private schools can embrace positive change for greatness.

10.00 – 10.30am – Contributions and reactions from the participants on change for greatness.

10.30 -11.00am - Health Break

11.00 – 1.00pm - Official opening of the conference.

2.00pm – 3.30pm – The new Basic Education Curriculum framework

This will be a panel discussion where experts on curriculum reforms from KICD, KNEC, MoE, TSC and KPSA will delve into the proposed reforms that will inform participants on the proposed Curriculum reform framework, Assessment framework, Capacity building for teachers and MoE readiness for the new curriculum implementation. Participants will have an opportunity of engaging the panelists directly through a question answer session to better understand the implications of the new curriculum and how to be better prepared as private schools for implementation.

 Tuesday 11th April, 2017

8.00 – 8.45am – Registration of participants

8.45 – 9.00am - Preliminaries and introductions.

9.00 – 10.30am – TOPIC: Understanding the critical laws and policies governing the management of private schools.

Participants will be taken through the most critical basic laws and policies that private schools need to know and observe. Participants will be afforded an opportunity to share experiences in relation to some of these laws lessons learnt and advise to schools.

10.30 – 11.00am – HEALTH BREAK

11.00 – 1.00pm - Topic: The money matters in private schools.

This topic will deal with matters of school financing, taxation, auditing, Budgeting, debt collection and management, credit restructuring and the general school fees/income management. Plenary discussion will involve a discussion on how to better fix the money matters in our private schools through best practice norms.

1.00 – 2.00pm - LUNCH BREAK

2.00 – 3.30pm - TOPIC:  21st Century private schools.

This will involve sharing of experiences on management of the 21st Century private schools, what needs to be learnt and improvements to be made. All rounded and seasoned managers with a record of successfully managing private schools will make a presentation that will culminate into a plenary discussion for participants.

6.00pm – 11.00pm – KPSA MEMBERS GALA DINNER
